The top-down testing technique is the most commonly used Integration Testing Type. It is an integration testing technique used to imitate the lower-level modules that are not yet integrated. Before we see the top-down and bottom-up integration testing approaches in detail, we need to understand incremental integration testing as top-down and bottom-up integration testing is an integral part of it.

The process is repeated until all top-level modules have been tested. The next level of modules is generated when the lower level modules have been tested and merged.
